Celsius Smart Cities Workshop- 16th September 2015

This interactive workshop will bring together excellence from several advanced European Smart Cities projects that will put forward their expertise and their project results on integrated planning, energy efficiency and district energy solutions, among others.

Work Package Project Leads - Profiles

WP1 - Coordination and Management

Richard Bellingham (Senior Research Fellow, University of Strathclyde) has a B.Sc. in Fuel and Energy Engineering, an MBA and Project Management qualifications. Specialising in energy policy, sustainable cities and sustainable energy issues, he is currently leading the development of investment and business models for Sustainable Glasgow. He has significant experience of research on attitudes and behaviours to energy and was responsible for writing the Sustainable Glasgow strategy. He was formerly Head of Energy Policy for the Scottish Government.

WP2 - Enhancement of City Energy Plans

Inete Ielite (Riga Sustainable Energy Action Plan Management Board Member) is experienced in developing and implementing national and international strategic programmes, as well as education and training programmes. Inete has worked for the Latvian National Commission for UNESCO and national administration and has been contracted by EC, Council of Europe, UNDP, IOM and by a number of the biggest Latvian cities. Inete holds a master's degree in International Public and EU Law and is currently studying for a PhD in Public Administration. Inete also has experience in developing European master's programmes, national bachelor's and master's programmes, and has been appointed by Riga City Council to be a member of Riga Sustainable Energy Action Plan Management Board till 2020.

WP3 - Development of Innovative Projects

Erica Eneqvist (Project Manager, SP Energy Technology) possesses a Master of Political Science degree, including communication and human geography. Erica has worked for the City Council in Gothenburg for over six years, covering issues of urban development. From 2013, Erica has worked as a project leader at SP Technical Research Institute of Sweden.

WP4 – Learning Network of Cities

Dieter Cuypers is Researcher at VITO in the ‘Transition, Energy and Environment’ research group. He graduated as Bio-Engineer in Land and Forest Management and holds a supplementary education in rural and tropical forestry.

Through the management of different kinds of forest projects in the framework of the UNFCCC he came in touch with international climate policy and has now partially turned his interest towards the interface of climate and energy policies, and in particular the built environment. Dieter is a member of the VITO team responsible for sustainable city and buildings projects.

WP5 – Dissemination and Replication

Gavin Slater (Glasgow City Council) is a qualified Environmental Scientist with six years’ experience in local government and five years’ experience in private consultancy. In his current role as City Energy & Carbon Manager, Gavin has been tasked with delivering the strategy for the new Energy Services Company for Glasgow whilst ensuring Glasgow City Council meets its Sustainable Glasgow carbon reduction targets and its obligations as part of the Strategies Towards Energy Performance in Urban Planning (STEP-UP) programme. Gavin is also responsible for management of the Council's Carbon Management Team and the delivery of the council’s Carbon Management Plan.

In addition, in his role as the Innovate UK Future Cities Energy Lead, Gavin was responsible for ensuring the delivery of the Energy Efficiency demonstrator projects that form part of the Innovate UK Future Cities initiative.
