The City of Ghent has updated subsidy regulations for sustainable mobility, this was made effective from 1 May 2014.
This regulation contains 4 different subsidies:
1- Citizens of Ghent who return a licence plate of a car and purchase an electric bike or electric carrier cycle will receive a subsidy of maximum €250 for an electric bike or €400 for a carrier cycle.
2- New subscriptions for car sharing organisations (or sharing of carrier cycles) are repaid 100%.
3- Citizens or organisations purchasing an electric or CNG car for sharing purposes receive a subsidy of €6000 (electric) or €1000 (CNG).
4- Companies who install a charging station for electric cars and make this public can receive a subsidy of €1000.

The city also announced that a new regulation providing subsidies for green roof installations will become effective in Ghent from 1 June 2014. Citizens, companies, schools and social housing organizations in Ghent can apply for a subsidy if they install a green roof. The green roof must be at least 6m2, and needs to have as a minimum, layers for drainage, substrate and vegetation. The subsidy is €25 or €31 per m2 depending on VAT, with a maximum of €25.000 per building.
